Houston was pretty tired, but I wanted to get the next load of laundry going before I put him down for a nap. I guess he didn't need me after all.
He had his 6 month check up & shots. He was 29" and 20.5#  Still off the charts in everything.  He got a fever the next day and seemed pretty miserable.  It was new to me, the first time either of them have had a fever from shots.  poor little guy.

Our little Houston has just not been himself the last few weeks.  He has had a little cough, mostly at night, but other than that nothing has really given us a red flag on any illness. He has just been a little sadder and needing to be held more often than normal, especially when it's time to be sleeping.
So we talked it over and decided since the next two weekends are really full and Fridays are really the only day it's convenient for me to go to town, being a one car family, that we should go ahead and take him in and get him checked out. It has been almost a month that he's been this way.
So we went to work with Matt on Friday and saw the Dr, and she said that little Houston had a really really bad ear infection. She asked if he had been pulling on his ear or had any discharge, but it was a no to both. She was really surprised at how pleasant he has been for us. I felt pretty bad and sorry for the little guy, that he had to put up with it for so long. I guess that is a down side to having such a happy baby, you don't really know when something's wrong.
Hope you feel yourself again soon little Houston.

oh, they weighed him at the Dr office and at 5.5 months Houston is 20Lbs 4oz.

“Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint.” - Mark Twain

It's time for a 4 month and 2 year check up.
Our last trip to the Dr. was a bit hectic. So this time I thought about it very carefully, prepared what I could, and things went so much better. It's amazing to me how much a mommy can influence the whole family. Anyway...
Houston is 18lbs 6oz and 28" long. His head is 17.5" around.
He is off the charts in everything. She said he is very healthy and the size of an average sized 12 month old.
Heath very much enjoyed being in his birthday suit in a public place.
He is 29lbs (50th percentile) and 35 3/4" long (75th percentile)
his head is 19" around (50th percentile)
If you double Heath's height he is projected to be 5' 11.5".
When Matt and I measured the wiggly boy on his birthday we only measured 34" which would have projected 5'8". Matt wasn't so sure about the thought of one of his boys being shorter than their mother. He was happy with the Dr.'s measurement.

So Long Saddle!

Candy Bar was born with hip dysplasia and has since had to wear his "saddle"
For the first 6 months of life CandyBar wore his brace 24/7 unless he was getting a bum change or having a bath.

It was amazing to see him crawl with it on without any problems. I don't have any pictures of that so you'll have to just take my word for it.

After the first 6 months he only had to wear it while he was sleeping which made for a much happier little boy and mommy during the day.

This was the first time we had his hips x-rayed in July 2010. You can see the circled femur bones are small and not formed completely. The hip socket (arrows) are shallow and don't hug around his femur bone.

This is from our visit on Tuesday. His femur heads are much larger and  hip sockets hug around them now.  So after 22 months the Doctor said CandyBar is free and clear! No more Brace!(They also did an ultrasound on Texas' hips to be sure he didn't have it since Daddy and CandyBar did. Guess what he said, Texas has practically perfect hips!) So we are a brace free family! YAY!
